One Wave at a Time

I recently returned from a kayaking trip in Dominica where I made an inspiring new friend, Wes Moses. So often, we want something about the world to be different, but all we do is wait and hope for change. Wes wanted more people kayaking in the Caribbean, so he did something about it!

Wes has been building a community of kayakers through his company, Soufriere Outdoor Centre, and he co-created the first national sea trail in the area with his partner, Kerry Alleyne, to encourage more people to kayak Dominica. I completed the 67 km/41 mile Waitukubuli Sea Trail last week with a team of kayakers led by Wes and Kerry (Kerry is pictured in the front, Wes is in the back). We spent a week paddling the entire Caribbean coast of Dominica, and I got to hear Wes's story and see him in action.

Wes is a quiet guy. He's not braggy or loud, but he's steadily making his dream a reality. His ripples in the kayaking world are turning into big waves. I fully believe that he will make Dominica the kayaking capital of the Caribbean!

As an introvert, Wes's style resonates deeply with me. I'm inspired to see how much he has accomplished while remaining true to himself. He's proof that you can accomplish big things if you take them one wave at a time.

(*Dominica is not the Dominican Republic; they're separate Caribbean countries!)
