South Bay Death Cafe

We’ve now hosted a few South Bay Death Cafes in the Program Room at the Sunnyvale Public Library for a discussion of death over tea and cake. We’re likely also hosting one in November 2024, so stay tuned for that future date!

At a Death Cafe, people—often strangers—gather to discuss death. The objective is to increase awareness of death with a view towards helping people make the most of their (finite) lives. The experience will be a group discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a place to talk and explore, rather than a grief support or counseling session.

See a previous listing on the global Death Cafe site.

Death Cafes help people in ALL phases of life talk about death and dying in a supportive, unstructured way. Death Cafe is a concept that originated in the UK, and are currently held in over 88 countries. Read more about Death Cafes on the global Death Cafe website.

Death Cafes are always:
- Free
- Open to, and respectful of, people of all communities and belief systems.
- In an accessible, respectful and confidential space
- With no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product or course of action

This program is for adults only. Registration is not required. This is not a grief support group.

If you require special accommodation, please contact the library at 408-730-7300 or chat with a librarian at least three days in advance of the program.
